Uncovered - The Festival of Vintage 21/04/2015
Enjoy reading this Guest Blog by Keeley Harris a successful vintage store owner and event organiser, which includes in case you didn't know the rather special Festival of Vintage at York Racecourse. We enjoyed visiting immensely last year and thoroughly recommend getting yourself along to this year's festival on the 25-26 April...
There’s No Time Like the Past at York Racecourse-Celebrating 4 decades of Vintage Style
I am delighted to say that The Festival of Vintage is back for the 5th year in York at York Racecourse 25th & 26th April 2015. A fun and nostalgic weekend attracting thousands of visitors, giving a feeling of being transported back in time!
Back in 2011 I created this Vintage festival as one of the first in the UK and it just keeps getting bigger each year. Spread across 3 buildings over 3 floors there is so much to see and do, planning takes me a whole 6 months every year with no extra pairs of hands until I rope in my friends and family on the weekend!
I want visitors to enjoy a packed programme that’s more than just the hundreds of amazing stalls. Included in the ticket is so much, it can take two days to see everything. Including 2 areas with vintage FREE dance lessons, make do & mend craft workshops, fashion parades, displays & exhibitions, talks & classic vehicle displays.
And that’s not all! One of the biggest draws of the event are the two Live music stages, split with 1930’s & 40’s performers on one and 50’s & 60’s bands on the other. I have definitely blown the budget this year as we have Britain’s got Talent stars The Jive Aces...
...London based 40’s band the Bevin Boys...
and 6 Rock & Roll Bands, plus the usual array of 1940’s event regulars.
New for 2015 I have teamed up with the Beamish Museum in the North East to bring a 1950’s Living Room...
as well as Marks & Spencer’s Company Archive in Leeds who are bringing a display of fashions from the 1930’s-1960’s archive collection.
To top this there are over 150 hand-picked vintage dealers from across the UK selling items from 1930’s-1960’s as well as 50 top quality Repro Brand and Vintage Craft Specialist, this event is a honey pot for vintage collectors & enthusiasts and also attracts lots of trade buyers.
|Visitors definitely make the effort with their outfits, which is one of the highlights for me and I absolutely love presenting the Best Dressed competition every year. It’s fairly hotly contested and involves the winner from each day getting £100 Cash, hopefully they will spend it with our traders!|
This event never seems to get any easier to organise; I need a lie down for about a week after! But I am already excited to see the smiling happy faces of visitors and traders over the weekend.
Tickets are on-sale on the door priced at £10 per adult per day & accompanied children under 16 years are FREE.
